In cases of severe tooth decay or infection, a baby root canal, known as a pulpotomy, may be recommended.
We’ll remove the top of the tooth’s nerve and the infected or damaged pulp inside the tooth, then treat the remaining portion of the pulp, disinfect the area, and fill it with a biocompatible material to protect the root canal.
By preserving the tooth's structure, we can avoid premature extraction, maintain proper alignment, and save space for permanent teeth. This is important for your child if decay has spread to the nerve of the tooth.
Following this procedure, we generally recommend the tooth receive a stainless steel crown cover for protection.
