X-ray examinations provide the dentist with an important tool that shows the condition of your child’s teeth, the roots, jaw placement, and the overall comparison of your child’s facial bones.

Our office is very sensitive to concerns about radiation exposure, and although x-rays are not necessary at every dental visit, our office does require x-rays at least once a year for all children over the age of 4 to ensure proper clinical diagnosis.

Since every child is unique, the need for dental x-ray films varies from child to child. However, in general, children need x-rays more often than adults. Their mouths grow and change rapidly. They are more susceptible than adults to tooth decay. For children with a high risk of tooth decay, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends x-ray examination every six months to detect cavities developing between the teeth. Children with a low risk of tooth decay require x-rays less frequently.

At Cobblestone Kids, our goal is to provide the finest and safest dental care for children. Parents are welcome in the treatment room during routine visits. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and actively participate in their child’s dental care. Only when a child requires operative/surgical procedures do we ask parents to remain in the waiting room while the Doctor and our clinical staff attend to the needs of the patient.

These treatment procedures require 100% of our team’s attention to be focused on the child. Furthermore, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry states that it is usually in the child’s best interest to be treated without parental interference. Studies have shown that children over the age of 3 often respond better to dental treatment when their parents aren’t in sight.

Payment is due at the time service is provided. We accept cash, personal checks, cashier’s checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Care Credit. As a courtesy to our patients, we will help you process your insurance claims. We ask that you pay the deductible and co-payment, which is the estimated amount not covered by your insurance company at the time we provide service to you.

We must emphasize that this is only an estimate and all charges that your child incurs are your responsibility. Your child’s treatment plan is individually tailored to their needs and is not dictated by insurance. Insurance companies have a wide variety of rules, plan limitations, and exclusions that our office may not be aware of. We urge you to read and review your dental policy so that you are fully aware of your insurance coverage.

Cobblestone Kids is in-network with most PPO plans. Some of the most common plans we participate with are Aetna PPO, Assurant, Cigna PPO, Delta Dental, MetLife, United Concordia, and Guardian dental insurance.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit a dentist before they turn 1, or within 6 months of the appearance of the first baby tooth.

Your appointment time is reserved for you and your child. If you are late for your child’s appointment, please understand that we may not be able to accommodate you. If you think that you will be late, please call as soon as possible so that we may advise you if your late arrival can be accommodated or if we will need to reschedule you. We maintain a very strict schedule and must insist that appointment times be respected.

For cancellation, we require 48 hours of advanced notice. A voice mailbox system is available for messages left after business hours. There is a $30 cancellation/rescheduling fee that is applicable after the second appointment that is missed or rescheduled without proper notice (please note that siblings are considered multiple, individual appointments and will be charged accordingly). Three missed appointments may result in dismissal as a patient from our practice.

Dr. George recognized a need for quality pediatric dental care in Philadelphia, the city in which he now lives and has grown to love. In a recent statistical survey in Men’s Health Magazine, it was stated that Philly received an “F” when it came to dental health care, ranking it #2 among “American cities with the worst teeth.” Dr. George wants to change this perception and believes that dental health care is only improved and maintained when a patient looks to his or her dentist with trust and understanding. This relationship has to start early knowing the importance of encouraging positive experiences through fun, rewarding interactions with patients at a young age.
